Give in to Magnolia.
Magnolia serves up predominantly Chinese cuisine, with a dash of Thai that is going to get bigger.

Bangalore, Monday, April 12, 2004:

It’s located in a quaint old house in a leafy glade and is literally in the pink of health, decor-wise and cuisine-wise. Serving the best of Chinese and Thai food, Magnolia is the kind of restaurant that demands a repeat visit. (It’s the kind of demand that you’ll happily give in to).

Magnolia was set up recently by two husband-and-wife combos, all of whom have a strong background in the food and hospitality industry. The restaurant is enclosed in the warmth of a large, stone house fenced by a stone wall; its interiors are done up in soft, floral pink and white light flows in through the French windows. The overall ambience is romantic and feminine, which is not surprising as the restaurant is run by a woman restaurateur, Rysma Kumar.

The house is an architectural talking piece located away from the hustle and bustle that is so characteristic of Koramangala. You can also eat out at the terrace garden, which can also be employed for parties (there is even a live kitchen for terrace gatherings), and special rooms that can be used for private and kitty parties. Not unusually, the place is a great hit with families and women.

At Magnolia, the décor and food combine tastefully to satiate your mind and your senses, with light music playing in the background. For special occasions, the restaurant also has live music. The service is unobtrusive; but when required, you will always find a helpful waiter hovering by your side, ready to help you out with your orders.

One of the specials served up is the dimsum — made from freshly-prepared wrappers painstakingly rolled out till nearly transparent. Then there are the soups, which include the refreshing Tom Yum, the delectable Talumein and the Thai coconut soup; the last is a hot favourite among regular patrons. (They also have a cool favourite in the Kingfisher that acts as an accompaniment to their meal of choice.)

And the food is healthy. Says Kumar, “We believe in a light and minimal usage of oils and fats. It’s very healthy, and yet fills the stomach.” Everything is made in-house, including the Thai, satay and chilly-garlic sauces.

An average non-vegetarian meal for two is priced at Rs 350, while a vegetarian meal costs Rs 250.
